The Start of the Elite Club Season

Going to see if we can't get some discussion going on this one:

The first weekend in August usually marks the beginning of the elite level ultimate season. Teams have solidified thier rosters, introduced the year's new offense, and have practiced as a team for just over a month. So the question is... Who is going to come out on top when the dust settles in Sarasota in November?

This weekend gets us started with three tournaments (two of which former scapegoats will be perticipating in. Dave Baer and CJ in the New York Invite with Pike. Simon in the Colorado Cup Elite Division with Bravo).

Colorado Cup Elite Division

The New York Invite

Furniture City Shootout

So lets here it goats... lets hear some predictions... either on the weekends tournaments and the season.

Simon

  1. I am going to be super lame and start things off on my own thread.

I'll start with the easiest one, the furniture city shootout. This is a tournament that has fallen off in the past couple of years, and the trend seems to be continuing. With absolutely no problem at all, Ring of Fire will take it having no one get more than ten on them.

    The New York Invite:
-Day one will see the power pools stay pretty much the same with VooDoo possibly moving up a spot. Pike will once again prove that they are the best team out of our section and take Pool C
-The semis will see Goat matched up against Rhino and Bodhi matched with PoNY. The Goat match won't be much of a game, and Goat will take it easy. The Bodhi and PoNY match will be closer, but Bodhi will be too much for the home team. Bodhi then proves that they have what it takes to be a top 5 team this year and takes the final 15-11.

    CO Cup:
    I am totally bias!
    -rankings after pool play.
    1) Doublewide
    2) Johnny Bravo
    3) Jam
    4) Machine
    5) Madison Club
    6) Sub Zero
    7) Street Gang
    8) Truck Stop

The final is close, but Bravo takes it on Universe (after a layout D from me... Yea right.)

For the season... my pick is Revolver... they picked up a lot of good players in the off season. It is thier year.

  2. First off, Simon, congrats on learning how to use the links.

    Here are my quick picks:
    - NY Invite: Bodhi over Goat, 15-12
    - CO Cup: Bravo over Sub Zero, 16-14
    - Furniture City: Ring over Iron Men, 15-9

The NY Invite pools have been finalized and it looks like Forge was able to lobby their way into the power pools. This sets up an interesting rematch for CJ and Pike on Saturday against Wiretap for what will likely be first place in the pool. Hopefully Pike will be able to step up and take the win to setup an easier match on Sunday (the B pool looks weaker, with Phoenix likely taking the 3rd spot - that would probably be a better matchup than either Rhino or PONY in the pre-quarters).

As for Bravo, I'm picking them just so I don't hurt Mr. Sensitives feelings. However, if what I saw at Wildwood is any indication of the quality of Bravo this year they are in big trouble ;)

And yea, I just used winky, deal with it.

  3. yes... haha... Mr sensitive. It is funny, because what I remember at wildwood was dave baer and me scoring points and then stepping off the field so that finch could give them right back to the other team. Interesting... Maybe I had sand in my eye.

But enough of that... a couple things from the inside of Bravo from practice last night:
-First is how this is going to be such a different year for the team. The past couple years there has always been a big name player to look to on the offensive side of the ball. With cutters like Beau and Mac Taylor, offense was a much more of a garentee. This year is going to be all about grinding teams down. Bravo has always been one of the most athletic teams and this year it is going to be what brings them victories.
-A really good indicator game is going to be truck stop. There have not been many major changes to their roster and how the team performs in that game will be a good benchmark as to where we stand from last year.

One last thing... the wink is really gay.

  4. Winky may be gay, but at least he doesn't hide it. Besides, he wasn't the one walking out the woods shirtless with Tex.

  5. NY Invite: Pike over Bodhi. (Bodhi over GOAT)
    CO Cup: Jam over DoubleWide.
Furniture City: Ring with ease. If Los
wasn't going as an X team I'd say they'd give them a game.

NY Invite thoughts: This will be our first time with the entire roster and no tryout players so we should roll in as the C1 into the pre-quarters. I get the feeling we will play Voodoo as Phoenix has shown to be strong and Bodhi is playing great. That and I have no idea about any of the Northwest teams so thats the extent of my comment on that. If the wheels fall off and somehow Pike does not win the tournament, I am picking Bodhi.

GOAT has played awesome but has a massive target on their back because of their bad rep so if any team could take them down it would be Bodhi.

CO Cup thoughts: I haven't heard anything about Jam shaking up their roster so until they are dethroned at an Elite tournament, I am sticking with them. Picking DoubleWide to get to the finals, they added Gibson and have gotten better each year. With Bravo losing two big weapons, I see this as somewhat of a learning tournament.

Furniture City thoughts: Blah, the only way Ring tanks is if they are giving scrubs playing time.

@Simon: "then stepping off the field so that finch could give them right back to the other team" ... Well played.
